The project includes raised crosswalks and speed humps on the access road. It will serve some ten communities within two miles. The path will connect to a sidewalk and bikeway network in the vicinity, including existing or proposed facilities on Shady Grove Road, Crabbs Branch Way, Redland Road, Needwood Road, the Midcounty Highway, and the Intercounty Connector/MD200.
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority provided land for the project at no charge to the County. The project was also approved for Federal funding, which was allocated to the State.

White Ground Road bridge replacement completed; road reopens
05-02-12 5:34 PM
The Division of Transportation Engineering has re-opened White Ground Road to through traffic. This marks completion of construction of a replacement of the 28 foot single span, steel beam bridge on White Ground Road where it crosses over Buck Lodge Branch. The project involved extensive stream restoration. The road had been closed to through traffic since last summer.
The project involved replacing the bridge and approximately 500 feet of approach roadway work on either side of the bridge. The new bridge is 48 feet long and 18 feet wide and consists of a single span concrete slab. It replaced a single span steel beam bridge built around 1950 which had become structurally deficient.
White Ground Road is designated as an exceptional rustic road in the functional master plan for rustic roads. The narrow bridge—the roadway’s width of less than 16 feet only allows for alternating ...more

Large-scale reconstruction, resurfacing, or repair projects are scheduled each Fiscal Year, depending on funding availability. Such projects include Primary and Arterial Road resurfaci ...more
